Role
Design the systems that operators rely on when safety matters most.
Our Client has a requirement for a SCADA Systems Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Warrington or Cumbria (hybrid working).
Role Purpose:
- Design and deliver high-quality SCADA and HMI systems for complex, safety-critical industrial environments
- Own the operator interface and visualisation layer, ensuring clarity, usability, and performance
- Support full lifecycle delivery from concept design through to commissioning and testing
- Enhance system visibility, data insight, and operational decision-making
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Design and develop SCADA system architectures (client-server and distributed systems)
- Configure industrial communications including OPC UA/DA, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP
- Develop intuitive HMI interfaces with clear navigation and high usability standards
- Create process visualisations, mimic diagrams, and operator dashboards
- Configure and maintain alarm systems (prioritisation, rationalisation, diagnostics)
- Manage historian systems, trending, and data analytics functionality
- Implement security controls, user access, and system resilience measures
- Integrate leading SCADA platforms including:Collaborate with control systems engineers to integrate PLC data into SCADA environments

- Schneider Citect / Vijeo Designer
- Siemens WinCC
- AVEVA / Wonderware
- Support all project lifecycle stages:Produce high-quality technical documentation including design specs, test documentation, and user manuals
- Concept & detailed design

- FAT / CAT / SAT
- Commissioning
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience developing SCADA/HMI systems in industrial environments
- Proficiency with at least one SCADA platform (FactoryTalk, Citect, WinCC, Wonderware/AVEVA)
- Strong understanding of industrial communications (OPC, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Experience in alarm management, diagnostics, and system monitoring
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
Desirable:
- Experience with historian systems and data analysis tools
- Exposure to regulated industries (nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals)
- Basic knowledge of PLC systems and control logic
- Interest in SCADA architecture and advanced system design
